A certificate in Skillsive is built from several reusable parts. Create the reusable elements first, then connect them with a certificate assignment.

Recommended order
- 1Prepare the PDF file that will be used as the certificate background.
- 2Create a certificate template and place fields on it.
- 3Create an instructor signature if the certificate should show a trainer signature, stamp, or trainer details.
- 4Create a registry type that controls certificate numbering.
- 5Create a certificate assignment that links the template, signature, registry type, training form, and optionally a course.
- 6Issue a certificate manually or from course completion.
- 7Check the issued certificate in the registry, download the PDF, or run administrative actions.
Without an assignment, Skillsive does not know which template, signature, and registry should be used when issuing a certificate.
Course or manual certificate
An assignment can work in two ways:
- With a course — issue the certificate from course completions. Skillsive uses the participant and completion data.
- Without a course — issue the certificate manually from the certificate registry. Use this for training delivered outside Skillsive or for administrative documents.
Trainee signature
If the template contains the Trainee signature field, the certificate waits for the trainee's signature. You can collect it during issuing or later from the registry.
After the trainee signs, the certificate is finalized with a digital signature. If the template does not contain a trainee signature field, finalization happens automatically after issuing.
Organization signing key
Every final certificate is digitally signed. By default, Skillsive uses the platform key. An organization can upload its own signing certificate in organization security settings.
An organization signing certificate is optional. Add it when certificates should be signed with the organization's key instead of the platform key.
Prepare before you start
- a clean, unsigned PDF file,
- the fields that should appear on the certificate,
- certificate number format,
- instructor details, signature, and optional stamp,
- whether the certificate requires a trainee signature,
- whether the certificate should be connected to a course.
Shortest test path
Create a template, registry type, and standalone assignment. Then issue one certificate manually and check it in the registry.
