What does VR headset fleet management mean?
The ongoing work of enrolling, configuring, monitoring and eventually wiping every headset a company owns, done from one console instead of one device at a time. It covers bulk enrollment, pushing apps and kiosk locks to a group, watching battery and storage from a dashboard, and cleanly resetting a headset when it changes hands.
Does Meta Quest need a separate MDM platform?
Yes. Quest has no native single-app lock or fleet console, so training deployments enroll devices through Meta Horizon Managed Services (HMS) and manage them from a third-party platform such as ArborXR or ManageXR. Without one, every configuration change means physically touching each headset.
What changed with Meta Horizon Managed Services in 2026?
Meta stopped selling commercial Quest SKUs and made HMS licenses free from February 20, 2026, but moved the service into maintenance mode: no new features, security updates only through the regular OS update process, with support running until January 4, 2030.
Is PICO device management different from Meta Quest?
PICO ships its own first-party console, Business Manager, with live device monitoring, remote reboot and wipe, batch enrollment and kiosk-style home screen locking built in. Meta Quest has no equivalent first-party console; Quest fleets rely on a third-party MDM instead.
How many headsets justify setting up fleet management?
The break-even is closer to five than fifty. Past two or three shared headsets, manually reconfiguring each one after every session already costs more staff time than enrolling them in an MDM once and pushing updates to the whole group at once.
