XREAL Light — specification and verdict
The Light is the odd one out in XREAL's family and worth understanding for that reason. Alone among them it carried cameras - two grayscale for spatial computing and one 5-megapixel RGB - and did inside-out 6DoF tracking with plane and image recognition, which none of the Air models attempt. What it did not carry was a processor. The spatial computing ran on an external Snapdragon 845 unit in the developer kit, or on a connected 5G phone, which is why it belongs here as a tethered viewer rather than a spatial computer. Magnetic corrective lenses handled myopia to minus 8 dioptres, an answer the rest of the family still does not have.
Nothing about this is deployable now and little was then. Nreal sold it as a developer kit and an enterprise edition rather than as a product, tied to specific 5G phones or to the bundled computing unit, and XREAL's current documentation lists it simply as discontinued with no end-of-support date. There is no device management, no kiosk mode, and the platform it targeted - phone-driven AR on Android - has since moved on twice. Two practical notes: the maker contradicts itself on weight, with the consumer page saying 106 grams and the developer-kit page 88, and the press figures trace to the lighter one.
Historical interest. Our courses never ran on it and there is no route to make them: it is a phone-tethered AR viewer from a platform generation that ended. What makes it worth a page is that it answers a question people still ask - has anyone shipped glasses that do proper spatial tracking without a headset - and the answer is yes, in 2020, by putting the computer in a separate box. If you want that capability today, look at the spatial category rather than at wearable displays.

Who this device is for
Anyone tracing how phone-driven AR glasses evolved, and owners deciding whether an old developer kit is worth keeping. It was never a training device: the content was developer-built, the compute lived in a separate box, and the platform is gone.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Neither Nreal nor XREAL ever published a panel type, a brightness figure or any certification for the Light, and there is no end-of-support date - only the word discontinued in XREAL's comparison table. The maker also contradicts itself: the consumer page says 106 grams and 156 by 52 by 44 millimetres folded, the developer-kit page says 88 grams and 166 by 49 by 47, and both are its own. We carry the consumer figures because XREAL's current table agrees with them. The 52-degree field of view is published without an axis, and the 1200 and 2000 dollar prices come from press coverage rather than a page the maker published.

XREAL Light — frequently asked questions
- Did the XREAL Light have its own processor?
- No, and that is the most misunderstood thing about it. The glasses held displays, cameras and sensors; the computing sat outside. In the developer kit that meant a separate Computing Unit with a Snapdragon 845, 6 gigabytes of memory and Android 8.0. In the consumer versions sold in Japan and Korea it meant a compatible 5G phone. That is why we file it as a tethered viewer even though it did spatial tracking - a capability the later XREAL One achieves differently, with its own X1 chip.
- Why do sources disagree about how much the XREAL Light weighs?
- Because the maker published two figures. Nreal's consumer page said 106 grams and XREAL's current comparison table still says 106; the developer-kit page said 88 grams while claiming the same specifications as the consumer version. Press coverage repeated the lighter number, which is why 88 grams circulates widely. We record 106 because two of the maker's own sources agree on it, and note the other rather than hiding it.
