Rokid Max — specification and verdict
The Max is a wearable monitor: a USB-C cable carries the picture from a phone or a handheld, and the glasses hold Sony micro-OLED panels at 1920x1080 per eye running up to 120 Hz. Two things still set it apart from cheaper viewers. The dioptre dial adjusts from 0.00D to -6.00D per eye, so a short-sighted wearer needs neither inserts nor contacts, and TUV Rheinland certified the panels for low blue light and flicker. What it does not do is track position: nine-axis sensing gives head rotation only, so the virtual screen stays anchored in front of you rather than in the room. For training that settles it — our courses need a trainee to move and use their hands, and this is a display, not a computer.
The interesting part of a Max purchase in 2026 is the price. It launched at 439 USD and Rokid's own store now lists it at 159 while the AR line in the site navigation shows only the AR Spatial, the Max 2 and the AR Joy 2 — this is stock selling through, not a product with a future. Plan accordingly: no device management, no kiosk mode, no enterprise tier, and a spec page that Rokid has already deleted (global.rokid.com/pages/rokid-max-specs now returns 404, so the figures here come from archived copies of Rokid's own site). What survives well is the hardware itself. The dioptre dial means one pair fits several short-sighted wearers without inserts, and the TUV Rheinland eye-comfort certification is the kind of thing an occupational-health reviewer asks for.
Do not buy it for our courses; they will not run, because this is a screen on a cable rather than a computer, and the head tracking is rotation-only. Buy it, if at all, as a cheap personal display for a phone or a handheld console — at 159 USD with Sony micro-OLED panels and a dioptre dial it is the best value in this catalogue for that one job. Two caveats before ordering: it is being discontinued in all but name, so treat support and spare nose pads as finite, and Rokid's own successor, the Max 2, is the model still on the price list.

Who this device is for
A single person who wants a big private screen from a phone, a laptop or a handheld console, and who is short-sighted enough that inserts or contacts would otherwise be part of the deal. Also plausible as a seated video or presentation display where a projector is impractical. Not for anyone whose scenario involves walking a route, using both hands or sharing one pair around a training room.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Rokid deleted the specification page for this model — global.rokid.com/pages/rokid-max-specs returns 404 today — so every figure here comes from archived copies of Rokid's own site rather than a live page. Nothing is published for the camera, the materials, the app support or an explicit binocular statement, and no announcement date survives: the March 2023 page said "Shipping in May, 2023" while a June snapshot said "Shipping in 2-3 weeks", so no single release date is recordable. The field of view is given as "50° (16:10)" with no axis named, which is also why we do not compute a pixels-per-degree figure from it. Rokid's brightness wording is "up to 600 nits perceived brightness", not a flat measurement.

- Will Skillsive VR training courses run on the Rokid Max?
- No. The Max is a display, not a computer: a USB-C cable feeds it a picture from a phone or a console, and its nine-axis sensing gives head rotation only, with no positional tracking. Our courses need a trainee to move through a scene and use their hands, and neither is possible on hardware that anchors a flat screen in front of your face. This is a limitation of what the product is, not a software gap.
- Can I use the Rokid Max if I am short-sighted?
