XREAL Air 2 — specification and verdict
XREAL Air 2 is the base model of the Air 2 family: two Sony micro-OLED panels at 1080p per eye, 500 nits, a 46-degree field of view and 72 grams, driven entirely down one USB-C cable. There is no battery, no processor and no Wi-Fi — whatever you plug in does the work, and head tracking is 3DoF from the IMU. That is the line separating it from its siblings: the Pro adds electrochromic dimming, and the Ultra is a different product with cameras and 6DoF.
It deploys the way a monitor deploys: plug it into whatever already runs the work. There is no operating system to manage, no accounts and nothing to enrol, which makes it unusually easy to hand out — and equally unable to run anything on its own. Our courses do not reach it, because there is nothing on the glasses to run them; what the glasses show is whatever the connected device already displays.
A good answer to a narrow question: a private, portable screen for someone who already carries a laptop or a phone. It is not a training device and does not pretend to be one — no tracking beyond head orientation, no application platform, no fleet management. Where it earns its place is a cramped workplace, a service van or a hotel room, and against its own siblings it is the cheapest way into the line.

Who this device is for
Anyone who needs a private screen where a monitor will not fit, and who already carries the device that will drive it. In an industrial setting that means a service engineer with a laptop in a van, not a trainee in a scenario — the glasses render nothing themselves.
How it differs from its predecessor
Against the Air 2 Pro it lacks the three-stage electrochromic dimming and weighs three grams less. Against the Air 2 Ultra it is a different class: the Ultra adds dual grayscale cameras and 6DoF tracking, so content can be locked to the room rather than floating with your head. Against XREAL One and One Pro, those move the image processing into XREAL's own X1 chip.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
XREAL publishes no launch date and no announcement date for the Air 2, no optical architecture, no IPD mechanism and no launch price — the store shows only the current 199 dollars against a 249 compare-at figure. Battery, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, storage and tracking rate do not exist as rows: the glasses are bus-powered and carry no radios.

- What is the difference between XREAL Air 2 and Air 2 Pro?
- The Pro adds three-stage electrochromic dimming, which darkens the lenses so the image holds up in bright surroundings. Optics and resolution are otherwise the same, and the base model is three grams lighter.
- Does XREAL Air 2 track my position in a room?
- No. It has no cameras and tracks only head orientation from its IMU, so the image floats with your head. Room-locked content needs the Air 2 Ultra or a headset with inside-out tracking.
