Rokid AR Spatial — specification and verdict

Rokid AR Spatial pairs the Max 2 glasses with the Station 2, a Snapdragon Android computer worn on the belt with 8 GB of memory, 128 GB of storage and a 5000 mAh battery. The glasses are the screen; the puck is the machine, and it runs Rokid's own Android-based system with its own application store.

Because the puck is real Android, an ordinary application package can be installed on it — which makes this the only wearable display in the comparison that runs software at all. What is missing is the enterprise half: Rokid publishes no device management or enrolment story, so a fleet would be managed by hand.

Read Rokid's own wording carefully before believing the "spatial computing" name: it states 3DoF perception, so you get several screens arranged around your head, not content pinned to a machine. A neat mobile workstation, and not a platform to build a training rollout on.

Who this device is for

The AR Spatial is Rokid's whole package: display glasses plus an Android puck that runs the applications, so it works without a phone. At 648 dollars with a three-and-a-half-hour battery it is aimed at travel and remote work — a portable multi-screen workspace rather than a training device, and our courses do not run on it.

How it differs from its predecessor

Against the plain Max 2 the difference is the Station puck and the Android platform that comes with it: the Max 2 needs a host device, the AR Spatial is one. Against XREAL's Beam Pro, the equivalent idea from a bigger manufacturer, it is a similar bet on a small box carrying the software.

What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish

Tracking is 3DoF, so screens follow your head rather than staying anchored in the room, and there is no camera or hand tracking. No device management, no support for our applications, and the puck is another thing to charge. Rokid publishes no resolution figure in the source we cite.

What is the difference between the Rokid AR Spatial and the Rokid Max 2?
The AR Spatial is the Max 2 glasses plus the Station puck, which runs Android and supplies the applications. Bought alone, the Max 2 is a display that needs a phone or laptop; bought as the AR Spatial, it is a self-contained device.
Can the Rokid AR Spatial replace a laptop for travel?
For consuming and light work, reviewers find it plausible; for a full working day it is not, because 3DoF means the screens move with your head and the on-puck Android is not a desktop. Treat it as a portable big screen with some computing attached.
