ASUS AirVision M1 — specification and verdict
The AirVision M1 is a display, not a computer. Two 0.49-inch Sony micro-OLED panels give 1920x1080 per eye at 72 Hz and 1100 nits, and ASUS quotes 58 pixels per degree across a 38-degree field of view — sharp enough to read a spreadsheet or a manual, but the image occupies a small window in the middle of your vision rather than surrounding you. Head movement is tracked in 3DoF only, so a virtual screen can be pinned to a direction but nothing can be placed in the room and nothing can be reached for. There is no camera, no positional tracking and no on-board compute: everything arrives over one USB-C cable in DisplayPort Alt Mode. For training that means the M1 can show a course, a video or a checklist to one person, and cannot host an interactive VR exercise.
There is no fleet story here. ASUS sells the M1 as a consumer accessory at 699 USD with no enterprise licensing programme, no device management and no kiosk mode, so every unit is provisioned by provisioning the host machine instead. It only works with a host that offers DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C — ASUS names the ROG Ally, laptops and phones, and recommends Windows 11 24H2 with at least Radeon 680M, GTX 1060 or Iris Xe graphics for the AirVision app that arranges the multiple virtual screens. Hygiene is easier than with a headset: 87 g, a glasses frame, swappable nose pads and a magnetic light shield, all wipeable. Availability in Poland and Germany runs through ASUS's normal retail channel rather than a B2B account, so expect to buy single units at retail prices and to supply your own USB-C host per user.
Buy it as a personal screen, not as training hardware. Our VR courses are standalone Android applications and none of them run on a 3DoF tethered display with no compute, so for practical training you want a standalone VR headset instead. Where the M1 does earn its place is a technician who needs a private, readable 1080p display next to a machine without carrying a monitor.

Who this device is for
This suits an individual who already owns a USB-C DisplayPort host: a ROG Ally owner, a field engineer with a laptop, someone who wants a 100-inch virtual screen on a plane. It does not suit a training department buying ten units, because there is no management layer and nothing interactive to deploy onto it.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
ASUS publishes brightness, resolution, refresh rate and 58 PPD but says nothing about battery — because there is none; the glasses draw power from the host — and nothing about a warranty term, MDM support or an enterprise SKU. The company also does not state where the touchpad sits or how many microphones the noise-cancelling array uses. ASUS's own spec sheet rounds the net weight to 0.08 kg while its marketing page gives 87 g; we kept 87 g. No independent review we could open in this session measured the figures, so brightness and field of view are the vendor's own claims.

- Does the ASUS AirVision M1 work without a PC, phone or ROG Ally attached?
- No. The M1 has no processor, no battery and no operating system of its own — the single USB-C port carries video in DisplayPort Alt Mode and power in from the host. ASUS lists the ROG Ally, laptops and phones as sources, and recommends Windows 11 24H2 with Radeon 680M, GTX 1060 or Iris Xe class graphics for the AirVision app. Unplug the cable and the glasses go dark.
- What does the TÜV Rheinland certification on the AirVision M1 actually cover?
- ASUS states two separate TÜV Rheinland eye-comfort marks: Flicker Reduced and Low Blue Light. Both describe how the micro-OLED panels are driven at their rated 1100 nits, not impact resistance, dust or water ingress. There is no IP rating, no MIL-STD drop rating and no ATEX approval, so the M1 is office and home hardware, not industrial site hardware.
- Is the prescription lens frame that comes with the AirVision M1 ready to use?
- Only partly. ASUS ships a detachable prescription lens frame plus a sample lens in the box, but the actual corrective lenses have to be cut by your own optician to your prescription. Budget for that per user, and note that the frame is the officially supported route — there is no diopter dial and ASUS publishes no supported diopter range.
