ROG XREAL R1 — specification and verdict
ROG XREAL R1 is what happens when ASUS puts its gaming brand on XREAL's optics: Sony micro-OLED at 1080p per eye running at 240 Hz, 57 degrees of field of view, 3 ms motion-to-photon, 700 nits peak and 91 grams, driven by XREAL's X1 chip. It has three-level electrochromic tint, digital IPD and audio by Bose, and like every viewer in this class it renders nothing itself — whatever you plug in does the work, and head tracking is 3DoF.
It deploys the way a monitor deploys: connect it to the machine that already runs the work. There is no operating system to manage, no accounts to enrol and nothing for a fleet tool to see. Our courses do not reach it, because there is nothing on the glasses to run them. Where it earns a place at work is a bench with no room for a screen, not a training bay.
A specialist answer to a narrow question, and the fastest panel in the category by a wide margin. That refresh rate matters for gaming and for anything where latency is the complaint; it does nothing for a training scenario, because the glasses cannot track a room or run an application. Who this device is for
Gamers first, and after them anyone who wants a large private screen where a monitor will not fit and who already carries the device that will drive it. In a workplace that means a service engineer with a laptop, not a trainee in a scenario.
How it differs from its predecessor
Against XREAL One Pro it trades some field of view for a far higher refresh rate and the ROG tuning. Against XREAL Air 2 it is a different tier entirely — four times the refresh rate, brighter panels and electrochromic tint. Against the Air 2 Ultra it lacks cameras and 6DoF, so content still floats with your head rather than staying in the room.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
ASUS publishes no price on its own page, so none is recorded here — the figure in circulation comes from press coverage. No dimensions, no battery figures (the glasses are bus-powered), no radios and no tracking rate: none of these exists as a row for a wired viewer.

ROG XREAL R1 — frequently asked questions
- Does 240 Hz matter outside gaming?
- Rarely. It reduces motion blur and latency, which is what a gamer notices; for reading, video or a remote desktop the panel is already fast enough at a quarter of that. It is the reason to buy this over a cheaper viewer, and only that.
- Can it place content in a room like a headset?
- No. Tracking is 3DoF from the IMU, so the image follows your head. Room-locked content needs glasses with cameras, such as the Air 2 Ultra, or a headset with inside-out tracking.
