Pimax Vision 8K Plus — specification and verdict
The Vision 8K Plus puts 3840x2160 per eye behind Fresnel optics and spreads it across 154 degrees of measured horizontal view, which is the widest thing most trainees will ever put on. That width comes at a cost: the panels are fed an upscaled image rather than a native one, so fine print, gauge markings and small labels stay softer than the pixel count suggests. Binocular overlap is 86.79 degrees, so the far edges are effectively monocular and anything a trainee must read belongs in the middle of the scene. It runs at 90 Hz with an 110 Hz mode, needs a DisplayPort 1.4 gaming PC and two SteamVR 2.0 base stations, and it does not run our Android courses at all.
Nothing about this headset scales to a fleet. Every station needs its own PC with DisplayPort 1.4 and USB 3.0, two mounted SteamVR 2.0 base stations and a calibrated play space, and the Valve Index controllers are not in the box below the 1199 USD bundle. There is no vendor MDM, no kiosk mode and no enterprise licensing programme behind it in 2026, so provisioning is whatever your Windows and SteamVR administration already does. Hygiene means wiping the foam facial interface between users, and at 750 grams with the strap it is heavy enough that back-to-back sessions need breaks. Pimax has no service presence in Poland or Germany beyond ordinary consumer support channels.
Do not buy it for training. Pimax's own outlet listing is sold out at 630 USD, the device is discontinued, and our courses are Android standalone applications that cannot run on a PC-tethered SteamVR headset. If a very wide field of view is genuinely the requirement, look at Pimax's current tethered line instead, and if the requirement is delivering our training, use a standalone headset.

Who this device is for
This was aimed at flight, driving and space simulator users who care more about peripheral vision than about reading text, and who already own a strong gaming PC and SteamVR base stations. For a training department it is the wrong shape: it is tethered, it needs mounted hardware in every room, and one trainee needs one full PC workstation.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Pimax's live product page is JavaScript-gated and returns no specification table, so almost every figure here comes from VRcompare rather than the manufacturer, and the manufacturer's marketing quotes a much larger diagonal field of view than the measured horizontal number in this record. Third-party sources also disagree with each other on the bare headset weight and on the top of the IPD range. Pimax has never published an end-of-support date, a firmware support window or a Pimax Play compatibility cutoff for the Vision series, so how long the headset keeps working with current drivers is unknown.

- Can you still buy a Pimax Vision 8K Plus in 2026?
- Not new from Pimax. The company's own outlet listing for the Outlet 8K PLUS KDMAS Edition shows sold out at 630 USD, and the model is discontinued in favour of Pimax's newer tethered headsets. Anything you find now is used stock from resellers, without a manufacturer warranty.
- Does the Pimax Vision 8K Plus need SteamVR base stations?
- Yes. It has no inside-out cameras and requires two SteamVR 2.0 base stations mounted in the room, which is why the full kit launched at 1449 USD against 899 USD for the headset alone. Every training room would need its own pair mounted and powered, plus a PC with DisplayPort 1.4.
- Is the Pimax Vision 8K Plus really 4K per eye?
- The panels are 3840x2160 per eye, but they are fed an upscaled image rather than a native one, so the perceived sharpness is well below what the number implies. Spread over 154 degrees of horizontal view, that means small text and instrument labels read worse than on headsets with far fewer pixels and a narrower field of view.
