XREAL One — specification and verdict

The XREAL One puts a 1920×1080 micro-OLED per eye behind birdbath optics, at 50° and up to 600 nits, in an 84 g frame. Everything it shows arrives over USB-C from a phone, a laptop or a console: this is a screen you wear, and calling it AR is the marketing, not the product.

Nothing can be installed on the glasses — they have no platform of their own. The X1 chip inside handles the 3DoF anchoring that keeps the virtual screen still when you turn your head, which is why it works on any USB-C source without an app, but any application still lives on the device driving them.

Buy it as a portable second screen for a desk, a plane or a workshop bench, and never as equipment for guiding work: it has no camera, no world tracking and nothing to deploy an application to. In this comparison it is the best example of a class that is regularly sold as something it is not.

Who this device is for

XREAL One is a display you wear: 84 g, a 50-degree field of view and a virtual screen anchored in place by the on-board X1 chip, connected to a phone or laptop over USB-C. It fits reading documentation hands-free, working on a plane, or a second screen where there is no desk — not training scenarios, because it runs no application of its own.

How it differs from its predecessor

Against the One Pro the difference is field of view and optics: 50 degrees against 57, and a dimmer 600 nits against 700. Against the earlier Air 2 line, the X1 chip is the real change — anchoring is handled in the glasses instead of by the phone, which is what makes the image stay put when you move.

What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish

No camera, no 6DoF tracking, no application platform of its own and no device management. Our courses do not run on it. Brightness of 600 nits is comfortable indoors and marginal outdoors, and everything depends on the device at the other end of the cable — including how long you can use it before that device's battery is gone.

What does the X1 chip in the XREAL One do?
It handles the screen anchoring in the glasses themselves, so the virtual display stays where you put it instead of drifting with your head — and without a companion app doing the work on the phone. That is the practical difference between this generation and the Air 2 line.
Should I buy the XREAL One or the One Pro?
The One Pro if the screen is your main workspace: 57 degrees against 50 and 700 nits against 600 make a real difference to how much fits in view. The One if it is for video and occasional documents — the cheaper model does the same job in a smaller frame.
