Snap Specs — specification and verdict
Snap showed this on stage at Augmented World Expo on 16 June 2026, and the rename from Spectacles to Specs is the announcement. The 2024 device was a developer kit: 226 grams and 45 minutes of battery. This one is 132 grams with a 51-degree field of view through waveguides, it is fully standalone with no compute puck, and the lenses are electrochromic — they shift from clear to tinted in about ten seconds, which is what makes the same pair usable indoors and outside. It runs Snap OS and content is built as Lenses in Lens Studio. Pre-orders are open at 2,195 dollars against a 200-dollar refundable deposit, with a launch event on 16 September and shipping in the autumn to the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Snap has not published a battery runtime for it; the "nearly four hours" quoted in coverage is not a figure from the announcement, so it is not in the table.
The platform question is answered the same way as for the 2024 edition, and the answer is still no: content is a Lens built in Lens Studio and published through Snap, not an Android package installed under device management. That is a deliberate product decision by Snap rather than a gap, and it means our training courses have no route onto this device — no sideload, no MDM, no enterprise programme. What is worth watching is the hardware envelope: 132 grams with 51 degrees puts a full see-through field of view at a weight somebody could wear through a shift, and consumer volumes behind it — that combination is the number every industrial vendor in this comparison will be measured against next.
What is known: the weight, the field of view, the optics, the platform, the price, and an autumn window for three countries. What is not: the battery runtime, the European availability beyond France, and whether Snap opens the platform at all. For a training buyer there is nothing to plan here — it is a closed consumer platform, and the correct comparison for a deployable device is the industrial class above. Watch it anyway, because it sets the bar for what "wearable all day" means in this category.

Who this device is for
Snap Specs are the announced consumer version of Snap's AR glasses: standalone waveguide optics, 6DoF, 132 g and a stated 2,195 dollars. They matter as a signal about the category — a mainstream company betting that see-through AR is ready for people who are not developers — rather than as anything a training organisation can plan around.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Announced rather than shipped, with no independent testing of any kind. Snap has withheld almost every core display and compute figure: no per-eye resolution, no refresh rate, no brightness, no RAM or storage, and only dual Snapdragon processors instead of named chips. Applications need Snap's own development platform rather than an ordinary Android build, there is no device management, and our courses do not run on Snap OS. The 2024 developer edition's 45-minute battery is the relevant precedent for what to expect from the quoted four hours of mixed use.
