VIVE XR Elite — specification and verdict

VIVE XR Elite is HTC's compact all-in-one: 1,920 x 1,920 per eye behind pancake optics, 90 Hz, up to a 110-degree field of view, and full-colour passthrough for mixed reality. Two things make it stand out for shared training. It converts between a full headset with a battery cradle and a lighter glasses form, so it stays comfortable across a long session; and it has a built-in diopter dial from 0 to -6.00, which means many short-sighted trainees put it on without their glasses at all — one less accessory to hand out and lose. It runs on a Snapdragon XR2 with 12 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage. Eye tracking is not built in; it needs the separate Full Face Tracker accessory.

It runs the same Android-based XR platform our courses target, so our training runs on it as it does on Focus and Quest. HTC positions XR Elite as its consumer and prosumer headset rather than the fleet device — that is the Focus line — so first-party device management is thinner here, and a larger rollout leans on third-party fleet tooling. The battery cradle is hot-swappable, genuinely useful when a headset runs all day: a charged pack drops in without ending the session. It is sold in Poland through HTC's European store.

Choose XR Elite when comfort and the glasses-free diopter matter more than a managed fleet — a small team, a training room, sessions long enough that weight on the face is the complaint you hear. For a large centrally-administered deployment, Focus Vision is the better HTC answer. The hot-swap battery quietly solves the all-day-station problem that trips up headsets with a sealed pack.

Who this device is for

XR Elite is the compact one: 12 GB of memory and pancake optics in a body that folds down towards glasses, which makes it the easiest headset here to carry between sites. Our courses run on it. It suits demonstrations, mobile training and small teams — not a managed fleet, because HTC ships no device management on this model.

How it differs from its predecessor

Against VIVE Focus Vision it is lighter and far more portable and loses on nearly everything else: 1920x1920 per eye against 2448x2448, one refresh rate, no eye tracking, no DisplayPort mode and no fleet management. Against Quest 3 it costs twice as much for a comparable experience — the form factor is what you are paying for.

What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish

No device management, no enterprise licensing and no eye tracking, so this is a small-team device by design. The 120-minute battery sits in the rear module, and removing it for the glasses-mode form factor means running on a cable. Storage is 128 GB with a single 90 Hz refresh rate.

Can the VIVE XR Elite really be worn like glasses?
In its compact mode the rear battery module comes off and temple arms go on, which makes it far more wearable than a full headset — but without the battery it needs external power over USB-C. It is a genuinely portable device for demonstrations, not a hands-free all-day one.
Is the VIVE XR Elite suitable for a company fleet?
For a handful of headsets yes, for a managed fleet no — HTC does not ship device management or enterprise licensing on this model, unlike Focus 3 and Focus Vision. Our courses run on it, so it works well as a portable demonstration and small-team device.
