PICO G3 — specification and verdict

PICO G3 is the enterprise headset for rooms where nobody walks around: a 3DoF device that tracks where your head is pointing but not where it is. The panel is the same 1832 x 1920 per eye at 72 or 90 Hz used across PICO's 2021 line, behind Fresnel lenses with a 98-degree field of view, driven by a Snapdragon XR2 with 6 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage. It weighs 604 g as worn, adjusts interpupillary distance between three fixed positions, has a removable PU foam pad and is explicitly designed to be worn over glasses. One 3DoF controller comes in the box, and the specification lists no cameras at all.

Everything good about this device is operational rather than technical. PICO Business Suite gives it kiosk mode, remote deployment and the Business Store, so a room of them can be locked to one piece of content and handed to a queue of visitors — which is exactly what 360-degree onboarding films, museum stations and large-group briefings need. The limitation is the interaction model, not the silicon. Our scenarios ask a trainee to reach out and put a hand on a valve, a fire extinguisher, a lever; 3DoF tracks rotation only, so the hand can point at things but never reach them. That is why this row says our courses do not run on it.

Buy PICO G3 if what you actually need is a managed, cleanable, glasses-friendly player for 360-degree video in front of many people in one day. Do not buy it expecting hands-on safety practice: no amount of software fixes a headset that cannot tell whether the wearer stepped forward. If both jobs are on your list, the honest answer is two device types, or one 6DoF fleet doing both.

With device management, enterprise licensing and a 604 g body built to be handed round, it fits induction videos and 360-degree walkthroughs — not the scenario-based training the rest of this catalogue is about.

How it differs from its predecessor

Against every 6DoF headset here the difference is not a specification but a category: no positional tracking, no hand tracking and no controllers with depth, so a trainee can look around a scene but not step into it or pick anything up. Against PICO 4 Enterprise, it is the choice between showing a procedure and practising one.
