Oculus Go — specification and verdict
The Oculus Go renders 1280x1440 per eye at 60 Hz across roughly 89 degrees horizontally, which is enough to read large slide text but not the small print on a control panel or a label. Its tracking is 3DoF only: the headset registers where the trainee is looking, never where they moved, so leaning in to inspect something does nothing. The single bundled controller is also 3DoF and runs on one AA cell, so there are no two-handed procedures, no reaching, and no hand tracking. On a Snapdragon 821 with 3 GB of RAM it plays 360-degree video and simple seated scenes; a walkable training scene is out of reach. There is no passthrough, so the trainee is blind to the room around them.
Nothing about a Go fleet is manageable today. Meta stopped selling the headset in 2020, the store no longer accepts Go builds, and there is no vendor MDM or kiosk mode a new customer could enable, so every device has to be prepared by hand. Storage is fixed at 32 or 64 GB with no card slot, charging is over Micro-USB at roughly three hours for about three hours of use, and spare parts and replacement facial interfaces are second-hand only in Poland and Germany. There is no enterprise licensing programme left to buy into.
Do not buy an Oculus Go for training, at any price. It was a 199 to 249 dollar seated video device in 2018 and it is an unsupported one in 2026, and our courses do not run on it. If the budget is what drove you here, a current standalone Meta headset with 6DoF tracking and two tracked controllers is the only sensible replacement.

Who this device is for
Realistically nobody buying today. The only people who still have a use for a Go are those with an existing installed base playing 360-degree video, or a museum or waiting-room loop where a seated viewer with one pointer controller is the whole requirement and nobody needs to walk or use both hands.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Meta's own launch post gives resolution, ppi and the 199 and 249 dollar price points but no weight, field of view, battery life or processor, so those come from VRcompare rather than the manufacturer, and its price note contradicts itself on which variant cost 199 dollars. Meta's current security-update policy page does not list the Go at all, so there is no vendor-stated end-of-support date to publish; we left the field empty rather than guess one.
Oculus Go — frequently asked questions
- Do Skillsive VR training courses run on an Oculus Go?
- No. Our courses expect 6DoF positional tracking and two tracked controllers, and the Go tracks only head rotation with a single 3DoF pointer on one AA cell. There is no build of our courses for it and there will not be one, because the store stopped accepting Go apps after Meta discontinued the headset in 2020.
- Why can't I install anything new on my Oculus Go in 2026?
- The headset was discontinued in 2020 and the store stopped taking new Go titles and updates, so the catalogue you see is frozen at that point. Meta's current security-update policy page does not list the Go among supported devices, which means no system patches either; treat any Go still in service as a fixed-content appliance.
- Is a second-hand Oculus Go a cheap way to start VR training?
- No. It launched at 199 dollars for 32 GB and 249 dollars for 64 GB, and even free it cannot run a walkable training scene: 3DoF tracking, no hand tracking, no passthrough, 60 Hz and a Snapdragon 821 rule out everything beyond seated 360-degree video. Money spent on a Go is money not spent on a 6DoF headset.
