Samsung Galaxy XR — specification and verdict
Galaxy XR is Samsung's first headset on Android XR, and the hardware is genuinely top of this table: micro-OLED panels at 3552 x 3840 per eye, a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 with 16 GB of memory, four eye-tracking cameras, six world-facing tracking cameras and a depth sensor, 109 degrees horizontal field of view, and 545 g on the head because the 302 g battery sits on a cable instead. Refresh runs at 60 or 72 Hz, with 90 Hz available on request. Interpupillary range is 54 to 70 mm, storage is 256 GB, and Samsung quotes up to two hours of general use. There are no controllers in the box: eye, hand and voice are the input, with tracked controllers sold separately.
One line decides everything here, and it is not a spec. Galaxy XR runs Android XR, Google's platform — not Meta Horizon OS and not PICO OS, which are the runtimes our courses are built and tested against. So we record "our courses run on it" as no, and we mean it literally: nobody has put them on this hardware. Writing yes because both are Android would be guessing about our own product, which is worse than guessing about somebody else's. Beyond that: Samsung publishes no first-party device-management or kiosk tier for a fleet, and the headset is not officially sold in Poland, so warranty and invoicing run through a grey channel. The cushions and light shield do come off for cleaning.
Watch this one rather than buy it for training. If Android XR grows a device-management story and a Polish sales channel, the hardware is more than good enough for the kind of detail-heavy inspection scenarios that today push buyers to Quest 3 — and we would then need to test our courses on it and update this page. Until both of those happen, a fleet built on Galaxy XR is a bet on a platform, not a training rollout.

Average pixel density is our own arithmetic: panel pixels divided by the field of view on the same axis. It is the standard approximation, and it runs lower than a published peak figure because a lens packs pixels denser at the centre.
Who this device is for
Galaxy XR is a device to watch rather than to deploy: the first Android XR headset, with micro-OLED panels sharper than anything else in this catalogue and eye tracking on board. Our courses do not run on it today, so its place in a training organisation is evaluation and demonstration — and the platform question of whether Android XR becomes the standard our applications target next.
How it differs from its predecessor
Against Apple Vision Pro it is roughly half the price with a comparable micro-OLED display and, unlike visionOS, an Android base that a developer can already reach. Against Quest 3 it is three and a half times the price for a sharper image, eye tracking and a platform without Meta's account model — but with a fraction of the content and no device management.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
There is no vendor device management, no enterprise licensing, and our training applications do not run on Android XR yet — three separate reasons why this is not a fleet device today. Battery is 120 minutes, and availability outside Korea and the United States has been limited, which matters for a European buyer more than any specification here.

Samsung Galaxy XR — frequently asked questions
- What is Android XR and how is it different from Meta Horizon OS?
- Android XR is Google's XR platform, built on Android and integrated with Gemini, and Galaxy XR is the first headset to ship with it. Horizon OS is also Android-based but is Meta's own fork with its own store and account model — applications are not interchangeable between the two without a port.
- Can Samsung Galaxy XR be used for corporate VR training?
- Not with our courses today: they are built for Horizon OS and PICO OS, and Android XR is a separate target. There is also no vendor device management, so even a technically compatible application would have to be side-loaded and managed by hand across the fleet.
- Is the Galaxy XR display really better than Quest 3?
- Measurably, yes — 3552x3840 per eye on micro-OLED panels against 2064x2208 on LCD, which is the difference between reading a small label comfortably and squinting at it. Whether that is worth three and a half times the price depends entirely on whether your scenario asks trainees to read fine detail.
