PICO Neo 2 Eye — specification and verdict
The Neo 2 Eye pairs a single 3840x2160 LCD, 1920x2160 per eye, with a 101-degree field of view and a 75 Hz refresh rate. That is enough resolution to read a machine label or a permit form up close, but 75 Hz is visibly slower than anything sold today, and the Snapdragon 845 with 6 GB of RAM is a pre-XR2 part that cannot hold frame rate in a scene with a lot of geometry. Its real distinction is eye tracking with eye-tracked foveated rendering, which is why the device is still cited in gaze-based research. IPD is set in software across 55-71 mm rather than by moving the lenses, so users at the edges of that range get a softer image than a mechanical adjustment would give. There is no hand tracking and no passthrough that PICO documented.
This is not a device you can roll out. It has been superseded by the Neo 3 and PICO 4 lines, PICO's own product page for it now redirects to a newer model, and there are no OS or security updates. Third-party fleet tools still enumerate it: ManageXR lists the Neo 2 and Neo 2 Eye as managed devices under long-term support, receiving critical hotfixes only, so an existing estate can be kept running but a new order cannot be placed. The rigid retractable strap and foam facial interface wipe down easily, which matters if you inherited a fleet, and each headset ships with two 6DoF controllers. Budget for spare batteries and controllers from the second-hand market, because PICO no longer supplies them.
Do not buy a Neo 2 Eye in 2026, at any second-hand price. Our courses do not ship to it and there is no vendor support behind the platform. If eye tracking is the requirement, buy a current eye-tracked standalone; if it is only cost, a used PICO 4 Enterprise sits a whole silicon generation ahead.

Who this device is for
The only people this device still fits are research groups with an existing Neo 2 Eye and a working gaze pipeline built on the old PICO and Tobii SDKs, plus organisations that already own a fleet and need to keep it alive until a replacement budget arrives. For anyone choosing hardware now, this is a reference entry, not a shortlist entry.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
PICO never published dimensions, charge time or charger wattage for this model, and the live product page is gone, so the specification here rests on VRcompare, Road to VR and Tobii rather than the maker. No formal end-of-support date was ever announced, only the practical fact that updates stopped. VRcompare states 2048x2160 per eye while Road to VR and PICO's own 3840x2160 total give 1920x2160, and we used the latter. VRcompare also records an announcement date after the release date, which cannot be right, so we left the announcement out.
PICO Neo 2 Eye — frequently asked questions
- Does PICO still update the Neo 2 Eye?
- No. The Neo 2 Eye stopped receiving OS and security updates after PICO moved to the Neo 3 and PICO 4 lines, and the manufacturer's Neo 2 product page now redirects to a newer model. The headsets keep working offline, but you are running a 2020 Android build with no patches, which is why we treat it as outdated rather than merely old.
- Can I still manage a Pico Neo 2 Eye fleet with an MDM?
- Partly. PICO's own device management for this generation is finished, but third-party fleet tooling still covers it: ManageXR lists the Neo 2 and Neo 2 Eye under long-term support, meaning critical hotfixes only and no new features. That is enough to keep an inherited fleet in kiosk-style single-app use, not enough to build a new deployment on.
- Is the Neo 2 Eye's eye tracking worth buying it second-hand for?
- Rarely. The Tobii-based eye tracking and its eye-tracked foveated rendering were the reason for the 899 USD launch premium over the plain Neo 2, and they still work, but they are tied to the retired PICO and Tobii SDKs of that era rather than to current OpenXR gaze extensions. Unless you are extending an existing study built on that stack, a current eye-tracked standalone will cost less in integration time than the headset saves you.
