Oakley Meta Vanguard — specification and verdict
Oakley Meta Vanguard is the sports end of Meta's eyewear line: a wraparound Oakley frame with a 12 MP camera at 122 degrees, 3K video, a five-microphone array, IP67 and up to nine hours of use. It pairs with Garmin and Strava and reads your pace and heart rate into your ear mid-effort. Like every Meta frame except the Display, it has no screen — it captures and speaks, and shows you nothing.
Nothing here deploys into a training programme. There is no display, no application platform and no device management, and it pairs to a personal phone and a personal account. Where it does come up at work is hands-free documentation outdoors, and there the first conversation is about who has agreed to be recorded, not about rollout.
The most durable frame Meta makes, and the one most likely to survive a shift outdoors — IP67, nine hours and a wraparound fit built for movement. None of that makes it training equipment. If somebody wants glasses to document fieldwork in weather, this is the one to look at; if they want to be guided through a task, no Meta frame except the Display can do it.

Who this device is for
People who work or train outdoors and need both hands. The endurance and the water rating are what set it apart from the Ray-Ban frames; the absence of a display is what sets all of them apart from anything that can lead somebody through a procedure.
How it differs from its predecessor
Against Oakley Meta HSTN it is the same idea in a wraparound sports frame with an IP67 rating instead of IPX4 and roughly an hour more use. Against Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 it trades the everyday look for weather resistance. Against Meta Ray-Ban Display it lacks the screen and the neural wristband entirely.
What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish
Meta publishes the runtime, the camera, the IP rating and the price, and almost nothing else: no weight, no dimensions, no microphone count, no chipset, no memory and no radio generations. Colourways are described as a set of standard options without being enumerated on any page we could read.
