DPVR P1 Pro 4K — specification and verdict

The P1 Pro 4K puts 1920x2160 per eye behind Fresnel lenses, which is why DPVR sells it as a 4K device — the marketing figure counts both panels together. That panel is genuinely crisp for reading labels in a 360 photo or video, and the RGB-stripe layout avoids the colour fringing of pentile screens from the same era. What it does not have is positional tracking: the headset and its single 3DoF controller register rotation only, so a trainee can look around a scene but cannot lean in, walk, or reach out and grasp anything. At 72 Hz on a Snapdragon XR1 with 3 GB of RAM, it is a 360 media player with a good screen, not a machine for interactive simulation.

Fleet management is the one modern part of this device: DPVR partnered with ArborXR, and the P1 Pro 4K is on ArborXR's supported list, so remote app install and a locked-down kiosk launcher are available to a new buyer. The headset is Android-based with 32 GB of storage plus an SD card slot, which matters when your content is large 360 video files rather than apps. Practical caveats are age-related — Micro USB charging rather than USB-C, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 4.2 — so charging carts and accessories from a modern fleet will not be interchangeable. Hygiene is a plain foam facial interface; DPVR does not publish a swappable-liner SKU, so budget for wipeable covers. DPVR lists the P1 Pro 4K at 449 USD and sells through regional distributors rather than a direct EU storefront, so Polish and German procurement runs through a reseller.

Do not buy this for our training. Our courses are 6DoF interactive VR applications and they will not run meaningfully on a 3DoF headset, whatever the panel resolution. If your actual requirement is showing 360 site footage or a safety walkthrough video to a room of people, this is a competent and cheap way to do it — but for anything a trainee has to do rather than watch, buy a current 6DoF standalone instead.

Who this device is for

This suits an organisation whose VR content is 360 video: induction footage, site familiarisation, a filmed procedure walkthrough. The sharp per-eye panel and ArborXR management make it a defensible media-player fleet. It is the wrong device for anyone who needs a trainee to physically perform a task, because 3DoF rules that out entirely.

What is missing, and what the manufacturer does not publish

DPVR's own product page publishes almost nothing measurable: no refresh rate, no field of view, no panel type, no weight and no IPD range. The 72 Hz, 100-degree diagonal, 340 g and 54–74 mm figures here all come from VRcompare, not the manufacturer. The two sources also disagree on memory — DPVR says 3 GB, VRcompare says 2 GB — and we kept the manufacturer's number. No end-of-support or security-update date is published anywhere for a headset that shipped in 2019, and DPVR states no certifications for it.

DPVR P1 Pro 4K — frequently asked questions

Does the DPVR P1 Pro 4K support 6DoF with the optional tracking kit?
The headset itself is 3DoF and cannot be upgraded to inside-out positional tracking. DPVR's range marketing mentions 6DoF kits, but those apply to other P-series configurations and to tethered SteamVR use, not to the P1 Pro 4K's own standalone tracking. Treat this device as rotation-only for any content you plan to run on it.
Is the DPVR P1 Pro 4K really 4K per eye?
No. Each eye gets 1920x2160; the 4K in the name is the two panels added together horizontally. That is still a high vertical pixel count for a 2019 headset and text in 360 footage is readable, but it is roughly half the horizontal resolution per eye that the name implies.
Can I manage a DPVR P1 Pro 4K fleet with ArborXR?
Yes. DPVR partnered with ArborXR and the P1 Pro 4K appears on ArborXR's supported DPVR device list, which covers remote app deployment and a kiosk-mode home launcher that hides the stock interface. This is genuinely the strongest argument for the device, since fleet management is where cheap older headsets usually fail.
